About Us

PassagerĀ is a nonprofit, independent publisher whose mission is to publish the work of older writers, encourage the imagination in the later stages of life, and create beautiful and welcoming publications.

We publish two issues of Passager Journal each year, as well as books of poetry, short fiction and memoir by writers 50 and older. Our biennial book prize, The Morgenthau Prize, is awarded for a first book of poems by a writer age 70 and older. We also produce a weekly podcast, Burning Bright, and host a variety of readings and workshops.

Our vision is to empower older writers, and to combat ageism by demonstrating the creative capabilities of our older generations. We know from working with writers ages 50 to 106 that ā€œemergenceā€ can happen at any age—even when many wonder if it’s too late to begin something new, like writing and publishing. Passager is here to say not only is it not too late, but we are here to celebrate you.

Our Commitment to Diversity

At Passager, our mission is to encourage writers and readers to find their creative place in the world. We are committed to creating a literary environment that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion. All submissions receive consideration for publication without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, physical ability, education, or veteran status. Our inclusive culture empowers all of us to connect, belong, create, and grow.
